We Believe that the care one receives must be as unique as the individual. To provide this, we customize a care plan that includes meaningful activities to the individual’s interests and abilities.

Our Story

Active Caregiving was created in 2017 by Lorien Bellamy and Paige MacLean after working together in the senior care industry for over a decade. They saw how their work in Recreation Managment in Gerontology integrated with health care, community services, and Long Term Care and how essential it is for wellness and well-being. They also saw that conventional caregiving frequently left seniors unfulfilled. And so, the idea for Active Caregiving, a home healthcare company founded by caregivers with a passion for exceptional support and meaningful living was born around the kitchen table, witnessed by their babies in highchairs!

Since 2024, Lorien Bellamy has been the sole owner of Active Caregiving, continuing to build on the company’s founding values of dignity, independence, connection and high-quality, person-centred care.

As a locally owned small business, we intentionally maintain a close-knit team approach. This allows us to know our clients, families and Care Team Members personally, respond quickly to changing needs, and provide a high level of consistency and accountability.

Our Care Team Members are at the heart of everything we do. We carefully select, support and invest in exceptional care professionals who are committed to building lasting relationships and providing reliable, compassionate, high-quality care.

Recognition

Active Caregiving was the winner of the Rhyze Award in 2019 with Innovation Guelph. Founders, Lorien and Paige pitched their business model to a panel of judges (and an audience!) and Active Caregiving was selected to win the grand prize in recognition of its dynamic model of care, unique to the home care industry.

Memberships

Active Caregiving is proud to maintain a private office at Catalyst Commons, be listed with Ontario 211, provide services through the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), and work with insurance providers to support clients with eligible coverage.

Our Mission

We provide our care services to adults who need assistance due to injuries, physical disabilities, illness, or stress (for example – for new moms), and provide respite care, care to seniors, the family of seniors, and anyone else with limitations.

We know that needing to find a caregiver can be a source of stress and confusion. At Actve Caregiving, we bring clarity to the field of homecare and make sure that you and your loved ones are comfortable with the decision and that our care covers all of your needs and contributes to wellness and fulfillment.
